It was late November, therefore winter atmosphere was dominating the weather, as rain in Ljubljana. I went to this Slovenian trip with Lissa, flying from Amsterdam directly to Ljubljana on Thursday afternoon.

We were indeed welcomed by a bit of rain, however we could see the Ljubljana castle on the top of the hill and pink church. The city center was apparently preparing for the Christmas market Which would commence on the next day (26 Nov. 2021). Some fountains and statues were covered to prepare for the winter and some Christmas lights on the outside.

The next day, unfortunately, it was almost the whole day raining, however it did not reduce my excitement to know the city better. We started to get to know the city by joining the free city tour at 11am for about 2 hours. The tour started at Presernov square where the pink church (Franciscan church of the annunciation) Is located. Preseran (one of the famous poets in Slovenia) statue is also in this square with the God of love behind him, as he was looking to where his secret lover, Julia is, at the side of one of the building around. We walked further down to the river area, we crossed the triple bridge, which has 2 additional bridges were built for pedestrians on each side. Turning to left from there, we passed St.Nicholas cathedral. From this cathedral, we walked back to the river side by passing the fish/ fresh Saturday market. At this time, there were the Christmas market. The next bridge would be the butcher bridge which is full of lovers’ padlocks. Walking further down to the right, we passed another bridge, the dragon bridge. From here, we could have a good view of the Ljubljana castle on top of the hill which can be reached by a funicular. Those are more less the city center, pedestrians only area and quite some shops and restaurants around.

The castle can be reached by funicular. There is a separate fee for the puppet museum and the viewing tower. However this castle area has a cafe, Jazz lounge, restaurant and wishing well.

As alternative during the rainy day, a culinary trip can be done here, by tasting the Slovenian dumplings (sweet and savoury), chestnuts, and different cakes.
