Mua Gwaan? What’s up? No problem in Jamaica

Updated: Oct 21

Jamaica has never been in my list until I watched Bob Marley’s movie. I love his songs and I didn’t know a lot about Jamaica. The movie showed about the riot & shooting between two different political parties which made Bob & the Wailers escaped to UK. I was not really looking for any trips to Jamaica, however, life told me something else and I saw a nice organized trip to Jamaica for solo women traveler. And in no time, I enjoy my time in Jamaica.

I learned to say Mua Gwaan, as in Jamaican means What’s up. Without practice I wont be able to remember it, so I tried to say it to Jamaican people that I met. In the first couple of days, these Jamaican laughed at me, apparently, they didn’t expect me to know that phrase and we laughed together.

I spent around Montego Bay, which is on the west side of the island. Jamaica has a couple refreshing water fall, two of them are around Ocho Rios (Ochee): Blue Hole and Dunn’s river falls. When I said refreshing, it is literally refreshing our body by jumping into the water as in Blue Hole or walking up the natural stairs of the water fall at Dunn’s river. Remember not to step on the brown stone, as it will bring you down.
