June 1st, 2019, I had an experience to be surrounded by millions birds in Balletas island!
The journey started at the marina of Paracas, I took a speed boat with capacity about 40 people. First passing the cactus line on one of the island, which is believed it was made as a sign for the fisherman. The marina is full of colorful fisherman boats btw. Then moving further to Balletas island which is now also a bird research center. There are millions birds there, the Chilean boobies (grey footed boobies), sea lions, Humbolt pinguins, lines of commorants bird to eat anchovies, etc. It was really amazing to see the number of birds around the island. The island itself has a beautiful form with red granite as base and some volcanic, minerals layers on top, therefore it is colorful. Many arches/ windows formed by the sea water erosion. The closer to the area, the smelly it gets, ammoniak smells from the poe of the birds. In the old days, people used to collect these poes for fertilizer.
Still amazed by the number of birds, the number of lives, I went back to the hotel, swam a bit then sun bathing to get more tanned. Max, my Peruvian friend, was arranging that I could meet his parents for dinner tonight. Yes, happy! And actually the people here are quite nice, so maybe I should put my positive feeling again about this trip… Today it has been nice day so far.
While waiting for the bus to go back to Lima, I came to this sentence:
Travel is never a matter of money but of courage, this fitted well with my situation now. I lost my new Iphone XS, but I am already in Peru, so why still feel down due to the money lost for the Iphone. Get your courage back, Alfi! To see this magnificent country! It has happened, the phone is gone, let it go!
